Years 1 and 2 are in Key Stage 1.
We have three mixed age classes. The teachers are Mrs
Smith, Mrs Jackson and Mrs Thompson. They appreciate the
support they get from their superb Teaching Assistants,
Carol, Yvonne, Sue, Sandy and Melissa and look forward
to Julie joining the team at the end of November.
Autumn Term
During the autumn our Topic was Toys. We spent our time
thinking about out toys and compared them with toys from
the past. Unfortunately we were unable to visit Bedford
Toy Museum (due to refurbishment) but we appreciated all
the fantastic toys parents sent in for us to learn about
and put into our class museums.
Here are some of our favourite games.
Each class has their own bears that go home with the
children each night. We enjoy finding out what they’ve
been up to when we read their diaries. Thank you for all
the time spent taking photos and encouraging your
children to write in the diaries. They do get up to some
fun things at the weekends.

In R.E we have celebrated Harvest and collected food for
the Food Bank charity. Mrs Dunstan and Mrs Armitage
needed help to carry all the donations to the car. Thank
you for your support.
We also learned about the Jewish religion. We found out
about the celebration of Sukkot, where Jews remember
those who escaped from Egypt long ago and made shelters
in the desert. We made a shelter in assembly and Mrs
Jackson let us use it for a time.
We welcomed a visit from a parent and cousin. Who told
us about Ramadan and Eid. We were very lucky as they
brought in some fabulous party clothes for us to dress
up in. we felt like princes and princesses. Even the
teachers had a turn. Look how smart we all look.
In Science the children have been learning about forces,
movement speed and direction. They have made prototype
paper airplanes and helicopters to test. They have been
trying to devise ways of making their tests fair.

Their D & T skills have improved no end with all the
moving toys they have made.
This will come in handy nearer to Christmas when we will
make cards and calendars for our families.
This year our Christmas performance will be ‘The
Innkeeper’s Breakfast’ a traditional Nativity play. We
are learning the songs well now.

Spring Term
Our topic will be ‘Castles’.
