Children's Pages - Year 7
Set out below is a broad outline of your child's
curriculum for this term. It is important to note that, in
addition to the work described below, time will be spent upon
other aspects of the curriculum, especially the development of
basic skills in English and Mathematics.
Literacy
Pupils will study a fiction text (Holes by Louis Sachar) to
develop their understanding of the authors craft.
They will further extend their understanding of the structure
of English grammar using prepositions, connectives, adjectives
and adverbs to add interest to their own writing. Pupils will
also develop their use of extended sentences using commas.
Pupils will study a range of non fiction text types and learn
to create pieces in these styles.
Numeracy
Shape, space and measures, particularly transformations and
symmetry
Data Handling, particularly organising and interpreting data
and probability.
Extending mental and paper methods for multiplication and
division
Algebra, simplifying and solving linear equations.
Science
Pupils will study classification and features of animals and
plants.
They will also investigate environments and adaptation.
Human reproduction will also be included.
Design Technology
Pupils will design and create a one off fashion item,
typically a t-shirt. They will research suitable styles and
techniques to apply to their fashion item.
Starting with an existing product, they will alter this to
personalise it to their own taste. It would be helpful if pupils
could provide an old t-shirt to work on.
I.C.T.
Pupils will continue to work on developing the skills and
knowledge required to create mathematical models using
spreadsheets.
They will also investigate large scale databases using the
internet.
Geography
Pupils will continue to look at the human impact of natural
disasters such as volcanoes and earthquakes.
They will then move on to study the national and international
impact of sport on societies.
French
Pupils will practice their speaking, listening, reading and
writing skills in French.
They will also exchange letters with students from France in
French.
They will be learning about France as a place and French
culture.
Art
Pupils will work on various pieces of art using a variety of
materials exploring self expression in art.
Music
Pupils will follow a unit of work based around Calypso music.
P.E.
Pupils will take part in athletics and team games using
striking and fielding skills.
R.E.
Pupils will work on a unit investigating Sikh culture.
Citizenship
Pupils will investigate their changing place in society and
the need for rules and structure within group situations.
Homework
Pupils will be set three items of homework per week, two will
be maths activities the other will be from another subject such
as science, literacy or geography.
In addition to the three items of homework set each week in
pupils homework books the children will also be asked to learn
spellings, French vocabulary and table facts.
