BOOKWEEK NEWSLETTER FEBRUARY 2008
We are all very excited and looking forward to our
Book Week at Great Linford Primary. Please read on for more
details of what is happening next week….
Each class will base their work around a book for the whole
week. Your child’s class teacher may let the class know this
week the title and the author of their book so that they can
purchase the book to follow and use in their classroom in Book
Week.
SIMON MURRAY
On Tuesday 4th March, we are lucky to welcome author
Simon Murray into school for the day. He will talk to all the
children during the day about his books including the writing
and illustration process.
VISITING READERS
We have invited a range of visitors to school to read
to small groups or whole classes of children. Every class should
have a visitor at some time during the week.
READING CHALLENGE
Book week is designed to encourage children to foster
a lifelong love of reading. As part of this there will be a
reading challenge. At the end of Book Week every child will be
given a reading challenge sheet. Please encourage your child to
have a go and return the challenge sheet to school by Friday 4th
April. Each child who completes the challenge will have their
name in a draw to win a £10 book token. There will be a small
prize for all who complete the challenge.
WORLD BOOK DAY – THURSDAY 6th MARCH
Using the £1 book tokens for World Book day, we are
currently negotiating with Borders for them to deliver a
selection of their £1 books to school so that every child is
given a free book on the day. If we are unable to make this
possible, each child will bring their £1 token home.
CHILDREN’S SECONDHAND BOOK SALE
Children are invited to take part in a book sale on
Thursday 6th March at lunchtime. Please send in any donations of
children’s books which are in good condition as soon as
possible. These will be on sale for 10p each, proceeds will go
to Book Aid.
DRESSING UP – FRIDAY 7th MARCH
On Friday 7th March the children all have the
opportunity to come into school dressed as a character from any
book. We ask for a donation that will be shared between school
and the ‘Book Aid’ charity.
