NEWSLETTER 6th MARCH 2008

BOOK WEEK
Thank you for your donations of children’s books and money. The book sale and dressing up raised £140 which will be shared between the Book Aid charity and the school to support next year’s Book Week. Simon Murray, the author/illustrator, was very impressed with the children’s enthusiasm and children are encouraged to visit his website www.ickydoodah.com. Simon was keen to receive children’s letters and feedback; if you would like to pop them into the office, we will send them on.

SCHOOL MEALS UPDATE
As you are aware, our school is part of Milton Keynes LA tender process for hot school meals. If the process is successful, we hope that hot meal provision will commence after the two week Easter holiday. Early indications are that they will be priced under £2. We will let you know more as soon as we receive more details.
Free school meal provision also covers hot meals. The attached letter gives you more details about who is able to claim for this. Please contact the school office if you would like any help or advice.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE/HOLIDAYS
We have been asked by the Government to remind parents that holidays during school time are to be avoided wherever possible. Schools can only approve absence for family holidays if they consider that there are special reasons that warrant the holiday. The maximum allowance is 10 school days within a school year, regardless of the number of holidays taken. Approval will not be given during the first week in September, during Year 6 SATs week in May, or if a child’s attendance is below 90%. Leave of absence/holiday request forms are available from the school office and should be completed before booking the holiday.

SKIPPING WORKSHOP – TUESDAY 11 MARCH
A Skipping Workshop will be held on Tuesday afternoon to encourage children to be more active at breaktimes. There will also be an additional workshop from 3.15 to 4.15pm at a cost of £3 per child. Skipping ropes will also be on sale after school.
